The hopes, aspirations, trials, tribulations,
success are what constitute the courage and
bravery of an Overseas Filipino Worker -
all for the love of his/her family.
The First PPA Outing under the auspices of the New Set of Officers
The celebration of Eid al Fitr was much
welcomed by OFWS. Aside from the fact that it made four days break, OFWS all
joined with The Philippine Embassy to celebrate with Muslim brothers. The
Pusong Pinoy Association comprehensively prepared for the celebrations. First
was the venue. With such postcard-perfect view, OFWS were in for a treat. Usuma
Dam is one of the very popular venues for revelers.
But it was not merely for leisure. PPA
President, Eugene John Hernandez of Julius Berger Nig. Plc, a leading
German-based company has outlined the agenda for the day.
And who could upstaged Dennis Banasihan, a PE/PSHE/Biology/dep. House Parent teacher of Regent Secondary School as the Master of Ceremonies?
This is a day of accomplishments:
a.successful and
fruitful completion of forty days (40) fasting (end of Ramadan),
b.Overseas
Absentees Voting Registration May 2013 election,
c.presentation
of the Philippine House Bill No. 4408 - an Act creating the Department of
Overseas Workers rationalizing the organization and functions of government
agencies related
to overseas employment and for other purposes,
d.a clarion
call for the typhoon-ravaged victims via the Philippine Red Cross,
e.presentation
of the new PPA 2012-2013 membership ID card,
f.formation
of the Sports Teams for the upcoming Sports Festival,
g. birthday greetings to the August celebrants
AND…
h.most of all
this particular outing clearly demonstrated the lyrics of a childhood song …’
for your friends are my friends and my friends are your friends…the more we get
together, together….the happier are we!’
And how was
this achieved? Each person present picked a small strip of plastic from a
cut-out bottom plastic bottle. The color of the strip represents the team the
person belongs to – Blue, Green, Red and Yellow Teams. The officers were duly ‘distributed’ to
different teams.
Everyone pooled resources - financial, moral and physical
support. Each one merrily brought whatever they can share with everybody. Each
one lent a hand for whatever task was there.
Just a clear indication of future events - of what this young set of officers
can do for the community – vibrant, full of zest, with very progressive ideas
encompassing every stratum of the community they serve.
To them – MABUHAY!

well received. thank you

Embassy of the Philippines No. 2 Kainji St. cor. Lake Chad Crescent
The Pusong Pinoy Kind-Hearted Association in Nigeria (A Filipino Association in Nigeria) held its annual election last July 1, 2012.
Some years back, ministries, companies and embassies were relocated from Lagos to Abuja when Abuja was made the capital of Nigeria. In 2000, the Pinoys had a first organized group here, first as a scion of the PBSN (Philippine Baranggay Society of Nigeria) based in Lagos where the bulk of the OFWS were. Marisa Mercado of the Embassy of Ireland was the first president of the association from 2000 to 2002. In 2004, with the arrival of more OFWS, an election was held at the Philippine Embassy and the leadership was shared by Lolita Victorio and Antonio Santos. In May of 2004, a meeting was held at PREKA JBN compound in front of Mr. Antonio Santos' house. It was agreed that the name of the association be changed and duly registered as the Pusong Pinoy Kind Hearted Association. The elected officers then became the Board of Trustees: Marisa Mercado, Lolita Victorio as the Chairperson, Antonio Santos, Noel Regidor, Felix Magtanggol, Ramon Ruste, Alfredo Gatus, Ricardo Punzalan, and Vangie Novio as the Secretary of the Board.
The years passed and the association grew.
Where the 2004 election of officers was just held inside the consular office, the 2012 election was held and almost filled the embassy compound. The venue was a far cry from the venue of the last decade.
The new set of officers is young and dynamic. Fun. Like-minded. Progressive and goal-oriented.
To them : MABUHAY!
...the annual election of PPAN held at the Philippine Embassy

...cross-section of OFWS
...Sr. Marilou led the prayer; Ms. Teofie Infante addressing the community; previous set of officers with PPAN chairman Lolita Victorio honoured with bouquets; and tokens courtesy of Britamold...
...actively participating in the election of new set of officers
Sr. Marilou with some words of wisdom and encouragement
...and the next most important event....with the ubiquitous L E C H O N! (ni Teofie - masarap at malutong pa)
The newly-elected officers addressing fellow OFWS: John, Sheen, and Andrea...
...and Sherwin, James, Gel and Mercy...
...definitely busog na sila!
