Gracefully Aging

AGING GRACEFULLY

BIRTHDAYS  BIRTHDAYS  BIRTHDAYS

Worth celebrating!
As we toiled away, far away from home to provide the best for the family we love, this event is always celebrated with friends – old, new, newly-acquired – friends who become our family.
The March and April celebrants chose April 1st Easter Monday to relax and enjoy with friends their entrance into the world (some calendar pages ago…)

Celebrants: Fely Ramos, Marisa Mercado, Benjie Nadado, Romeo JT Torres and Tess Azarcon

Another year, another time, so much to thank for – family, health, every breath that one takes. That makes birthdays so important.

Amongst us  OFWS, a celebration like this one is always a shared work – from the heart: and the result is always a shared contentment – savored with relish.

Here’s our wish for all of you:  live long, live strong, and live happy!

OFWS: Family Day celebrated in Abuja Nigeria

A PPA-sponsored Family Day

On Easter Sunday,  OFWs in Abuja Nigeria celebrated the Family Day held at the Horse and Country Club, Jabi.
Events like this one at least make friends and families gather and enjoy even for a day -  a clean, wholesome fun.  This event was sponsored by Pusong Pinoy Association.  President John Hernandez and PRO Gel Llames are on leave.  The very active exco members prepared this event led by Sheen, the Vice Prez and all the other officers - Sherwin, James, Mercy, Andrea (who has just arrived from her holidays).
As always Dennis Banasihan provided the amusement and entertainment.
Pictures below showed the active participation of friends and family members:

...just plain enjoying the moment...Angie, James, clifford, Lot-lot, Janice, Mayette among others...

The first game: Egg Bashing (Basagan ng Itlog)

Each fresh egg was put inside a transparent plastic bag with water. This bag was tied tightly with a long string which was then tied to the waist of the contestants – a pair. The egg was positioned in front of each pair and had to be bashed by dangling and hitting without the aid of hands.  It was done by just  the movement from the waist.

The second game: MULTI-TASKING GAME - Densyu says -  version of Simon Says
He called the macho guys. As they came forward the instruction was given. Densyu calls an act to be done and while doing the first action, the second order has to be done and while doing the first and second, the third is done and so on…
TJ emerged as the best in multi-tasking followed by Noel and then Tirso.

...and doing all those actions...including kicking a ball while going to market and back and sitting in a chair....

Ready...set....go.....
The members of the group scrambled to produce more  items to add to the length of their line....
and more and more items were produced to lengthen their lines....
...and to help their team to win...Clifford, Sean and Konrad stripped and added their shirts to the line!  Ayan ang mga tunay na macho! Much to the amusement of Lot-lot and the spectators...

THE HOLY WEEK CELEBRATION at The Nunciature, Abuja Nigeria

THE LENTEN SEASON

The Lenten Season culminated in the holiest feast of Christendom – the Resurrection – the triumphant return of Christ the Redeemer, from the dead.

The traditional purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer through prayer, penance, repentance, alms-giving, and self-denial – starting from Ash Wednesday – (‘Thou art dust and unto dust thou shalt return’) to the Resurrection of Christ.

This is the season of remembrance, of cleansing, of obedience but most of all – of humility; where one bows and sheds away the layers of arrogance and pride; of greed and envy.

During Lent, many of the faithful commit to fasting or giving up certain types of  luxuries as a form of penitence.

Through the years, the celebration of the Lenten Season has also metamorphosed from purely spiritual remembrance of the sacrifice of the Lamb to purely temporal leisure of the flesh with only a slight – a very minute twinge of the conscience (if ever it has resided there).

The spirit is strong but the flesh is weak! A logical explanation to life’s decadence.

For many people, this is the season of superficial purity. I fast; I give alms; I partake of the Body and Blood of the Host; I do not covet what my neighbor owns (for now); I am okay.
The main question: For how long?

And yet again there are many genuine repentant souls. This season has always been a source of stronger faith; of stronger bond to the Crucified Christ.

The Holy Week as observed at The Nunciature in Abuja, Nigeria West Africa

In spite of the bombings of places of worship that had plagued the country especially in the North, the faithful flocked the chapel for the Palm Sunday celebration – in commemoration of the triumphant entry of the long-awaited arrival of the Messiah into Jerusalem to accomplish his Paschal Mystery.

In all the prayers and invocations, the Papal Nuncio prayed with the worshipers – for the deliverance from everything that contravenes the faith. He also prayed for the forgiveness and healing of the wounds inflicted by the men of the cloth.

Holy Saturday – the Easter Vigil
The celebration of Easter though still Saturday in the civil calendar, is liturgically Easter Sunday.
Here at the Nunciature, it started at 7:30 in the evening.
A bonfire was lit. This new fire symbolizes the light of salvation and hope that God brought into the world through Christ's Resurrection, dispelling the darkness of sin and death.
The Paschal candle was lit symbolizing the Light of Christ.
This Paschal candle will be used throughout the season of Easter, remaining in the sanctuary of the Church or near the lectern, and throughout the coming year at baptisms and funerals, reminding all that that Christ is "light and life."
