FINALS PART 4
As the PPA exited the National Stadium, each participant (athletes and cheerers and supporters) can rightfully say of having a good time. Everyone who joined will surely miss the early Sunday morning wake-up call; the rush to the stadium; Gel and Rex and whoever was free to 'sell' the plastic-bottled water for the PPA; the officers and the committee leaders moving around to make sure the games were carried out on schedule; the 'Tapsilog' of Gladys after the game; the halo-halo of Teofie under the 'tree of life'; the screaming and yelling and friendly banters during the game...and most of all the umbrellas and caps will be shoved under the table again.
And by now, the sunburnt faces and arms must have been returning to normal.
With this event, OFWS exhibited once more the balikatan, kapatiran at tunay na samahang Filipino. It is very exhilarating and humbling to see and feel the genuine participation of every one.
There were those who haven't even touched a ball especially the volleyball before the sportsfest and now can rightfully boast of being a good player. Players fell and tumbled and still stood-up smiling and finished the race.
LAHAT AY PANALO!
MABUHAY ANG PAMUNUAN NG PUSONG-PINOY!
MABUHAY ANG MGA OFWS!
MABUHAY ANG EMBAHADA NG PILIPINAS!
...as every beginning must have an end...so as PPA's month-long sportsfest. Backs are now turned and weary feet head to the exit.... |
PUSONG-PINOY OPEN
The Tennis finalists for singles were Ernel Santos of the
Yellow team and Wilmar Dadia of the Red Team. The grueling ground-strokes
(at least for the players after a post-Halloween party at the Philippine
embassy) lasted longer, testing their stamina.
Wilmar in Red and Ernel in Yellow; with Joel as the umpire |
...quite a rally...under the strict gaze of Gina checking the line and Rex helping with the ball... |
Red Wilmar - service |
...keeping fingers crossed....making each one run for the ball |
...called for break: Benjie playing for the doubles; Tickboy and Marisa; Joey and Lito; Angie and Monette; Rex retrieving an errant ball.. |
...and some snarling between Kiko and Aldo |
...giving the best shots... a la Nadal and Federer... |
Wilmar of the Red team - eventual winner; with Ernel Runner-up, Sherwin, Joel and John |
DOUBLES
RED TEAM vs YELLOW TEAM
Yellow Team: Benjie and Ernel vs Red Team: Nhur and Wilmar (galing naman ng mga porma...) |
Winner: Yellow Team - mahigpit ang laban kaya si Joel nakatayo na sa silya para makitang mabuti!!! |
DART
BLUE TEAM vs
GREEN TEAM
BLUE: Clifford, Buddy, Jabar vs GREEN: Alex, Sheda, TJ - Observers: Rex and Monette; Scorer - Sherwin |
And while DART is played, James and
Joven were sweating it out in Chess
CHESS
RED TEAM vs YELLOW TEAM
James and Joven - J vs J |
Alternate: Green Sheda, Blue Jabar and Green Alex |
Blue Buddy, Green TJ and Blue Clifford |
...with full concentration: Clifford, Sheda and Jabar... Winner: GREEN TEAM with high marks for Sheda |
CHESS MASTER: Joven, kaya si James ang nagliligpit; relaxing and cooling down at the swing after the games |
Dart and Chess were held at Vangie’s
residence at F 07.
To The Filipino Migrants.
